Breast lift With increasing age, after pregnancy or after a heavy weight loss, the skin loses its elasticity and the breast loses its shape. A sagging breast often no longer corresponds to the body image a woman has of herself. In these cases, a breast lift, also called a mastopexy, allows the breasts to be lifted to their original position. See also the page Breast augmentation for more information! If the breast is only moderately sagging and relatively small, breast augmentation with autologous fat or breast augmentation with a silicone implant may be sufficient to shape the breast. The advantage of this technique is that it leaves little scarring around the nipple and along the breast. If the sagging of the breast is more pronounced, some skin and fat must be removed. Often a scar is then required around the areola, which runs vertically. Vorher nachherGalerie Treatment procedureAt the Bellefontaine Clinic Before the procedure During the first consultation we make sure that a breast lift meets your expectations. We clarify questions about general health, family history of breast problems and measure various parameters of the breast. An ultrasound examination and/or a mammogram prior to surgery is standard. It is strongly recommended to stop smoking 3 weeks before and 3 weeks after surgery. During the procedure On the day of the breast lift we take photos of the breast in the standing position before the operation. Then we draw the future contour of the breast also in standing position. An anaesthetist will inform you about the planned general anaesthesia. The procedure takes about 2 to 3 hours and is performed under general anesthesia. In case of moderate sagging, breast augmentation with implants or fat is performed, leaving hardly any scars. For more severe sagging, another incision is required around the areola and vertically under the areola. The excess skin is removed and a smaller, firmer breast is formed, the areola is reduced and the nipple is lifted to its new position. After the procedure After the operation the breast is immobilized with a tight bandage. You will need to wear a metal-free sports bra for 6 weeks after surgery. If your surgery requires a vertical scar around the areola, the stitches can be removed 3 weeks after surgery and the remaining stitches will be removed. After 3 weeks you can treat the scar with a special scar ointment and silicone patches. Risks and side effects Immediately after the breast reduction you may experience swelling and numbness in the breast area. These usually disappear after a few weeks. A disturbance of the vascularisation of the nipple is also possible. The ability to breastfeed may be limited or eliminated after surgery. Unsightly scars may develop. Postoperative bleeding and infection are rare. Contact Do you have any questions or would you like to make an appointment?
